In 2010, I was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and hypothyroidism. The doctor prescribed medication for each condition and told me she would see me in three months. After enrolling in a nutrition-based program, in the first month, I lost about 17 pounds. I continued to alter my food choices, implement plant-based eating, and increase daily movement. I lost more weight and eliminated all medications. My goal is to improve African American women’s health and teach how making nutritious food choices can replace drugs. We are our sister’s keeper, and our virtual program will offer an accountability community for women motivated to work on their health.
